George A. Papandreou (born June 16, 1952) is Former Prime Minister of Greece, current President of Socialist International, a Member of the Hellenic Parliament and former President of the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK). He served as the 11th Prime Minister of Greece from October 6, 2009 - November 11, 2011, after PASOK’s victory in the October 2009 national elections.

Statement following President Musharraf’s announcement to call a state of emergency
“I am gravely concerned by the measures adopted yesterday in Pakistan, which will take Pakistan further away from democracy and the rule of law, stability and development.
It is vital that the government acts in accordance with the Constitution, and abides by the commitment to hold free and fair elections on schedule.
The only credible answer to extremism and the activities of extremists lies in respecting the Constitution, respecting the rule of law, and investing in the people, trusting the people, and allowing the people to determine their future in free and fair elections”.
