Socialist International President George A. Papandreou: “Save Palmyra” | 22.05.2015

Athens,  May 22nd, 2015

The President of the Socialist International and President of Movement of Democrats Socialists George A. Papandreou unites his voice with Unesco and other organizations on the need to respect the unique archeological site of Palmyra, a part of our common world heritage. He also reiterated the need for a ceasefire and the withdrawal of military forces.

The war in Syria produced not only thousands of victims and millions of refugees and displaced people but also caused the destruction of many cultural and religious monuments. Religious and political leaders should act urgently on protecting cultural and historical monuments from all periods and all creeds. Tomorrow will be too late!
