Statement on the passing of Shimon Peres | 28.09.2016

Shimon Peres  was a visionary humanist, a quality that few politicians have today.

He had no doubt that a new Middle East was possible, with peaceful coexistence of all neighbors. He played a key role in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and was always open to new ideas and initiatives.

Since his youth he was active in the progressive movement and fought for equality and social justice. Throughout the years we had the opportunity to collaborate closely and he became a dear friend. We exchanged views, not only on international affairs and politics, but also on deep philosophical issues.

The Socialist International, mourns the loss of a truly respected former Vice President and comrade. Shimon we will miss you…
